You may have seen a few of our ads floating through your feed recently.
Yes, Projekt Glitter has entered its Meta Ads era.
I’m very aware this is not breaking news to anyone but me. Still, for a brand that has always grown through community and word of mouth, it feels like crossing into foreign territory.
And if I’m honest, I was pretty reluctant to do it.
Here’s why I avoided ads for so long
- First, I hate advertising. Always have. I even worked for an ad blocker in a past life, so my bias runs deep.
- I didn’t want to throw money at something I didn’t fully understand. There’s something about the combination of algorithms, auctions, and acronyms that makes the whole thing feel deliberately confusing.
- The few times I did try to run ads myself, it was a disaster. Confusing, overwhelming, and frankly a total waste of money. There’s nothing quite like burning through your budget and having absolutely nothing to show for it.
So what changed?
Mostly, I got tired of not knowing. After nine years of slow, steady growth, I finally had a bit of budget to reinvest and I kept hearing (on my podcast binge) that paid ads are still one of the most effective ways to grow a brand, and I wanted to learn.
So I got help. I booked a three-day crash course with a Meta ads consultant who walked me through the logic, set up a two campaigns, and helped me find my feet.
Now I’m running them myself. Still nervously- but I’m in it!
How’s it going?
Honestly, I’m losing more money than I’m making. Apparently that’s normal at the beginning, although I’m not sure if that’s genuinely reassuring or just the most expensive form of optimism I’ve ever paid for.
But I’m learning. I’m tweaking and testing and watching what happens. I’m slowly understanding how the system works, and what the numbers mean. And as much as I resisted it, I’m enjoying the challenge.
What I’m learning, beyond the numbers
Not everything needs to be fast. You don’t need to be first to be valid. You can take your time, learn something new at your own pace, and still grow something real.
Running a small business isn’t a straight line. It’s a series of experiments, gut checks, and tiny wins. Sometimes you get it right. Sometimes you lose €80 testing a campaign with no clicks. Both are fine.
If you’re in your own learning curve right now, whether it’s ads, art, or anything else you never thought you’d have to figure out, I see you. You’re not behind.
You’re just building something that takes time.
