Sparkle in Saarbrücken

Sparkle in Saarbrücken

Projekt Glitter was invited to represent Berlin at German Unity Day in Saarbrücken. Still processing.

Jeen Low

Earlier this month, Saarbrücken hosted Tag der Deutschen Einheit, a massive three-day celebration for German Unity Day. Imagine: 300,000 people, music, food, dance floors, politics, karaoke. The works.

And somehow… Projekt Glitter was invited to be part of it.

I didn’t go (Berlin had other plans for me), but one of our amazing artists based in Köln showed up and glittered what sounds like half the children in Saarland

A hit with kids

In between the choirs and beatbox battles and sweaty karaoke booths, our glitter bar became a cute, sparkly haven.

Kids lined up. Parents hovered. Our artist kept it moving, one glittered cheek at a time.

And being part of this whole event became one of those pinch me moments because…

I’m Malaysian. I moved to Berlin knowing zero people.

No connections. Just a lot of curiosity and a weird obsession with glitter.

And now, somehow, the state of Berlin invited Projekt Glitter to represent them at a nationwide event.

Like… what?

To have my little passion project, my baby, recognised by the city I call home? That's wild.

The takeaway?

Glitter isn’t just for party people.

It’s for anyone who wants to feel seen, even for a second.

And while I wasn’t in Saarbrücken, Projekt Glitter was.

And we showed up the way we always do; with compostable sparkle, open hearts and a sprinkling of cheeky fun.

I’m proud. A bit stunned. And so very, very grateful.
