A Movement for Sustainable Celebration
At Projekt Glitter, we believe that partying and protecting the planet can go hand in hand.

Glitter That Gives a Sh*t
We know the damage traditional plastic glitter can do. That’s why we’ve created an alternative made from plant-based cellulose that biodegrades in natural environments.
〰️ Biodegradable glitter made from plant-derived cellulose that breaks down in 6 months
〰️ Cosmetic-grade and safe for skin
〰️ Hand-mixed in our Berlin studio
〰️ Packaged with minimal waste, no unnecessary plastic
Our Pearlescent Range is already fully plastic-free, and we’re in the process of phasing out our last remaining plastic-containing glitters.

Our Packaging & Production
Eco-Friendly Product Containers
Every part of our product is designed to reduce waste. All our products come in glass or aluminum containers and our labels are PVC free.
Green Shipping Practices
We use recycled materials or FSC-certified paper for our shipping to help protect forests. And we offset the carbon footprint of every order you place.
We clean up after ourselves.
Ecommerce deliveries have a carbon footprint. That's why we support verified projects that remove carbon from the air.
Every delivery’s carbon footprint is calculated based on weight, shipping method, and distance traveled. We neutralize these emissions by purchasing verified carbon removal credits from groundbreaking projects. When you add a contribution to your order, 100% of that money is used to pay for additional carbon removal.

With your purchase, you’ll join a community of proactive merchants and customers dedicated to a sustainable future. Together, we've removed emissions for over 59 million deliveries and removed over 43 thousand tonnes of carbon.
We work with a network of pioneering carbon removal companies that have been vetted by the commerce platform Shopify.

Our Commitment To Plastic Recovery
We’re not just reducing our own impact — we’re helping clean up existing waste too.
That’s why we’ve partnered with Cleanhub, who work to remove plastic waste from coastal areas before it enters the ocean. For every purchase, a portion goes toward this mission.

Repair & Rewear
Through our Repair & Rewear program, we collaborate with local Berlin upcyclers and designers to host hands-on workshops that breathe new life into worn partywear.

Partnerships with a Purpose
Sustainability isn’t just about what’s in our jars — it’s a way of celebrating that’s lighter on the Earth and richer in meaning. And we’re proud to partner with:
Wumanas, a female-led platform uplifting women and femme artists through events, creative projects, and community-building.
Sober Spaces to reimagine nightlife — creating intentional, substance-free party environments that celebrate connection, creativity, and good vibes.
Bio Glitter FAQs
Is your biodegradable glitter vegan?
The answer is both yes and no. At Projekt Glitter, we offer two distinct glitter collections: Sparkle and Pearlescent. Each collection has a unique composition that aligns with our mission of promoting sustainable beauty.
Our Sparkle Collection is vegan, but contains a small amount (6%) of plastic. While we're striving to completely eliminate plastic from our products, it's currently necessary as we continue to innovate and improve our technology. We're not perfect yet, but we're dedicated to this journey.
In contrast, our Pearlescent collection is 100% free of plastic. However, it contains shellac, a natural product derived from the resin secreted by the female lac bug. Although shellac isn't considered vegan, we ensure that it's ethically sourced, causing no harm to any bugs during the extraction process.
Transparency is crucial to us, and we appreciate your consideration of Projekt Glitter for sustainable sparkle.
How long does it take for the bio glitter to breakdown?
The decomposition time can vary depending on the composting conditions. However, in ideal conditions—warm, wet, and full of microorganisms—it can break down in a few months - a vast improvement on traditional glitter which can take hundreds of years to decompose.
Where does the bio glitter from Projekt Glitter come from?
Project Glitter's bio glitter is sourced from sustainable sources and produced right here in Germany. We make a point of supporting environmentally friendly practices from sourcing to production.
Is your bio glitter safe for the ocean?
Yes, our glitter biodegrades in sea water and can be anaerobically digested, meaning it can be broken down by our fish friends too!
If biodegradable glitter is accidently ingested by marine life, it is metabolized naturally, unlike traditional glitter, which remains in the animal and accumulates up the food chain.
In short, biodegradable glitter poses no threat to the ocean or the life within it - smooth sailing!
We are licensed resellers of both Bioglitter® PURE and Bioglitter® SPARKLE.
Bioglitter® SPARKLE, is 92% plastic-free and independently tested to prove it will degrade in natural freshwater environments and not just an industrial composter. Bioglitter® PURE, is the world’s first 100% plastic-free glitter and Certified ‘OK Biodegradable WATER’ by TÜV.

FAQ's
What materials are used in biodegradable glitter?
Our glitter is made from sustainably sourced cellulose derived from plants, ensuring it naturally breaks down without harming ecosystems. We combine this with natural colorants and, in some cases, a minimal amount of aluminum (for that extra shine) that’s still safe and planet-friendly. Our pearlescent range is completely plastic-free and uses mineral-based pigments instead of metal layers for a soft, iridescent glow.
How does Projekt Glitter reduce its environmental footprint?
We go beyond just the glitter. From using plastic-free, recyclable or compostable packaging to offsetting carbon emissions with climate-neutral shipping, every step of our process is designed with sustainability in mind. We also work with trusted partners like CleanHub to actively remove plastic waste from coastal regions.
Are your glitter products fully biodegradable?
Yes, all our glitter products break down naturally in water and soil within months, unlike traditional plastic glitters. Produced in Germany by Bioglitter™, our glitter is certified by TÜV Austria for freshwater biodegradability, meaning it breaks down safely in natural environments.
How does biodegradable glitter impact marine life?
Our glitter reduces microplastic pollution that harms marine animals, making it a safer choice for both people and wildlife.
Does Projekt Glitter support any environmental initiatives?
We’re proud partners of CleanHub, an organization dedicated to removing plastic waste from the ocean. Every order you place helps recover ocean-bound plastic, last year alone, we helped collect the equivalent of over 800 plastic bottles. We also collaborate with local creatives, upcycling designers, and conscious party collectives to promote more sustainable celebrations—from hosting clothes swaps to supporting sober and inclusive festival spaces. It’s all part of our mission to make partying better—for people and the planet.
Is your packaging sustainable too?
Yes! We use recyclable and compostable packaging to support our commitment to sustainability from start to finish. Our glitter comes in glass pots and tubes with aluminium lids, our stickers are compostable, and everything is printed on recycled paper. Glitter glue is packaged in reusable tins, and our kits come in cotton pouches. We use paper-based tape and filler to keep things plastic-free wherever possible. That said, a few exceptions remain—like plastic sleeves for customs forms, which are currently required for international shipping. We’re always looking for better alternatives and continue improving as we grow.
How can customers contribute to sustainability with Projekt Glitter?
By choosing our biodegradable glitter, customers help reduce plastic waste and support the movement toward eco-friendly beauty and crafts.
