What is biodegradable glitter made from?

Our biodegradable glitter is made from sustainably-sourced plant cellulose (primarily eucalyptus) in the EU. It’s certified biodegradable, compostable in natural environments, and completely plastic-free, unlike traditional glitter, which is made of PET plastic and lingers as microplastic. The glitters' bright, vibrant colors come from mineral dyes, and a tiny aluminum coating (less than 0.1%) gives it that extra sparkle.

While aluminum itself isn’t biodegradable, the super-thin layer is just there to enhance the shine. Thanks to its plant-based base, this glitter decomposes naturally, making it a more eco-friendly way to sparkle without guilt!

How long does it take for bio glitter to decompose?

Biodegradable glitter breaks down naturally in freshwater and soil, in a few weeks to six months. How fast it happens depends on things like temperature, moisture, and how much oxygen is available for the microbes to get to work.

How should I store the glitter?

If stored properly (cool, dry, and sealed tight), your eco glitter will stay fresh and sparkly for years.

There’s no hard expiry date, but like most natural products, we recommend using it within 3–5 years for best quality and shine.

And don’t worry, it won’t start biodegrading in the tube! It only breaks down when exposed to the right conditions (like moisture, microbes, and oxygen).
